Every dog is different and just because a dog looks a certain way, i.e. Is a certain breed, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the animal will behave in a certain way. However, there are some general assumptions we can make about breeds and there are lots of questions you should ask yourself before you commit to pet ownership:
Size is an obvious thing you need to think about. All dogs need lots of space to run around, preferably access to an outdoor area; obviously very large dogs need much more space than little ones so you need to think about this.
Some dogs prefer to be indoors rather than outdoors, they might be older or generally less active. When you’re at the animal shop or breeder buying a dog make sure you ask about the temperament of each animal and they should provide you with this information.
A new dog doesn’t necessarily need to be a puppy. The problem with puppies is that they require much more care and attention than older dogs. If you don’t have the time or energy (or money) to invest in a puppy, by all means consider an older animal that will be already settled to an extent.
And then there are other factors to consider, what about the look of the animal, the needs in terms of grooming or even whether the dog is male or female.
