When it comes to choosing pets a dog is usually right up there at the top of the list. These animals are cute, loyal, loving and hugely rewarding to own. It’s no wonder that so many people want one. Or even two. They become just like one of the family. Even when they’re at the most mischievous it’s hard to stay mad at them for long. They always make it up to their owners with all the love that they give back.
New owners need to be prepared for the responsibility that they are taking on. These are animals that require a lot of input. Plenty of love and attention, they are social animals after all, and daily exercise too. It’s not a decision to be taken lightly, especially given their life span and the cost of looking after them. Over ten to fifteen years people must be prepared to foot vets’ bills and feed their new canine companion properly. It all adds up. But in return they give so much back. There’s never a dull moment and their love is unconditional.
Getting their diet right is a big part of being a responsible owner. There are so many different breeds, from the tiniest to the biggest. The right diet will vary. Plus they need different foods at each stage of their life. Puppies have very different nutritional requirements to senior dogs. At a dedicated pet store they’ll be able to help new owners pick out the right foods and answer any of their questions about nutrition.
