We all know that a dog isn’t just for Christmas. And nor is a cat for that matter. But whilst many individuals buy animals simply to ensure that they can play with a cute ball of fluff when they are young, those that avoid owning a pet for fear that the novelty will soon wear off and leave them with an old and boring animal for many years should consider that many animals are like fine wines: you can tell how good they are by their smell. That, and they get better with age.
Animals tend to get more obedient as they get older, and they will also often be far less demanding too, being far more content to simply cuddle up with you and give you nothing but adoration and love. That being said, they are almost always just as fun, and at the same time more responsible, being able to be left alone for longer periods of time, and even being able to be left in charge of other animals.
Finally, and often most importantly, as they age, they become a real member of the family that you simply couldn’t do without, a source of love and affection that knows what you need, and offers as much of it as they can.
However, to ensure animals are as enjoyable to be around when they are old as when they are young, pet owners should make sure that they constantly assess what they are feeding their pet and what care they might need. Regular checkups will help, as will changing the food you offer as they get older, ensuring that specific nutritionally focussed foods are sourced for older pets.
