Questions to ask yourself Before Choosing a New Dog

Posted by

Every dog is different and just because a dog looks a certain way, i.e. Is a certain breed, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the animal will behave in a certain way. However, there are some general assumptions we can make about breeds and there are lots of questions you should ask yourself before you commit to pet ownership:

Size is an obvious thing you need to think about. All dogs need lots of space to run around, preferably access to an outdoor area; obviously very large dogs need much more space than little ones so you need to think about this.

Some dogs prefer to be indoors rather than outdoors; they might be older or generally less active. When you’re at the animal shop or breeder buying a dog make sure you ask about the temperament of each animal and they should provide you with this information.

A new dog doesn’t necessarily need to be a puppy. The problem with puppies is that they require much more care and attention than older dogs. If you don’t have the time or energy (or money) to invest in a puppy, by all means, consider an older animal that will be already settled to an extent.

And then there are other factors to consider: what as the look of the animal, the needs in terms of grooming or even whether the dog is male or female.
